Artist's Comments

I was inspired by another artist to do as detailed a dragon head as possible. I started this sucker last spring and only finished it at the end of December. It was the scales, and the shading that almost killed me. Drawing little, irregular circles gets really old after a while.

This was done with a mechanical pencil...and time. Lots of time. *sigh*

I'm glad it's done, and I think I may never do this again. Yeesh...

Came out really nicely, nevermind the pain. I can't imagine myself ever really working on something for a lengthy period of time. Call it getting bored or ADD or what not.

Well, I wasn't exactly working on it constantly since last Spring. I left it alone for, like, months at a time, but unlike other things I've abandoned, I kept coming back to it. Glad you liked it.

WOW! This really turned out nice! :) I'm so glad I was able to inspire you to do it, and hope you find more inspiration in the future. All those scales look like they took a very long time! I've forgotten how tedious it is.

It certainly paid off though, wonderful drawing.

That is quite impressive. One of the toughest things in doing dragons, is the skin texture, as it requires so much patience.

Kudos !

Youchy ! by Yao Chi

Overhead tumble not by plan
Ground slams claw, much pain and then
"Youchy !, Youchy !", he hollers out loud
Yao Chi's fallen, from his cloud.

Yes. They were tedious. There were times I didn't think they were worth it, but then I would look at the head, which was complete, and realize that I couldn't leave this pic half finished. I just couldn't. ;)

Yeah, that's why so many of my dragons end up looking...well, unscaled, or I don't finish them. *sigh* There's got to be an easier way. I swear! :D
